About Us

Who We Are

We are an inclusive community of adults aged 55 and above who relish opportunities for friendship, socializing, and learning. A diverse blend of members, we encompass both the employed and the retired, homebodies and travel enthusiasts, singles and couples. Some call the Riverfront District of Minneapolis home, while others reside elsewhere. A Mill City Commons membership provides maximum flexibility; members can choose to attend as many events and programs as they wish from a monthly calendar that brims with exceptional and varied options.

What We Do

We enrich our lives with friends, programs and activities designed to keep us active, engaged and connected. With our robust calendar of social events, educational programs, outings, and wellness activities, neighborhood faces quickly become neighborhood friends.

Educational Programs

We welcome top-notch speakers on significant, timely topics. From conversations with the mayor and police chief on the future of the city to learning about our complex, inter-connected world, we believe in the value of lifelong learning.

Social Outings

Whether we are meeting for coffee, gathering for happy hour or enjoying a potluck on someone’s patio, we enjoy opportunities to connect with one another.

Wellness Activities

Our belief in the importance of supporting healthy, active lifestyles is reflected in sponsored activities (walking groups, strength and stretch sessions, meditation) and programs on brain health, nutrition, and navigating our individual wellness journeys.

Events

The Twin Cities has so much to offer. We organize groups to attend sports events, enjoy “a movie and a bite,” visit a museum, and get the inside scoop on neighborhood businesses and organizations through “Nosy Neighbor” tours.

Volunteer Opportunities

From Earth Day clean-ups to collecting donations for holiday meals and toy drives, we seek out opportunities to give back and to be a positive force in our community.

Member Support

Most of us experience a “bump in the road” at some point. When this happens, we support each other with rides, check-in calls, meals, or running errands.

Where We Live

Whether you live in the Mill City District or beyond, we are easy to find. The Mill City Commons area is broadly defined to include the part of Minneapolis that stretches from 35W to the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, and from Washington Avenue to Fourth Street SE, including Nicollet Island. However, numerous members live outside this area and have joined MCC to take advantage of all that we have to offer. In addition, some members who envision moving downtown in the future join MCC to “try on” the experience.

I am not yet retired. Does a MCC membership make sense?
I am not yet retired. Does a MCC membership make sense?

Definitely. Many of our members are still working part-time or full-time. We offer programs at a variety of times of day and days of the week to accommodate both working and retired members. Our calendar shows the varied times that programs and events are offered.

“We travel a lot now that my husband is retired, but when we come home, there is always something to go to. I love that we can count on the recurring events like Saturday breakfasts at Elsie’s and the Wednesday morning gatherings. Our patterns of attendance have changed given our circumstances, but that’s the beauty of MCC-it fits into our lives easily.
