About this event
In 2020 author Jenney Egertson visited Selma, Alabama. Toward the end of a tour of the Queen City, she met former Selma mayor George Evans, who mentioned he was looking for someone to help write the story of his life and career; Jenney eventually agreed to do it, as long as she could include her perspective as a white, sixty-something woman of privilege and incorporate what she learned about race and leadership. During the next three years she visited Selma and interviewed more than a dozen of George Evans’ friends and former colleagues.
THE MAYOR, Lessons from the Story of Selma’s Native Son, chronicles the mayor’s remarkable life and follows Jenney’s journey as her self-awareness and her relationship with Selma’s beloved leader deepened and grew. Come hear Jenney's story as she explains how the book came to be.
THE MAYOR is scheduled for publication in spring of 2024.
