About this event
Join us as we take a one-hour tour of Hocokata Ti [ho-cho-kah-tah-tee] Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) cultural center. Through this experience, visitors will be immersed in the story of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Through audio and visual interactive elements, the history of the Mdewakanton Dakota people will be depicted from their existence before European settlers to making treaties with the U.S Government, as well as the journey to self-sufficiency. This highlights tour spends a limited amount of time in each area of the exhibit; groups are welcome to explore on their own after their tour concludes if they wish to spend more time in a dedicated area. In addition, we will be able to experience the We Are Water MN statewide traveling exhibit, organized by the Minnesota Humanities Center in conjunction with other state agencies.
We will have time after the tour to visit other exhibits (included in the admission fee), gift shop and optional Dutch treat lunch (suggestions provided).
Cost: $7/person payable in cash or major credit cards. No checks.
Drive time from Minneapolis is 30-40 minutes. Tour begins promptly at 10:30 a.m.
This tour has a 20 person maximum.
