About this event

Please join us for an engaging and informative session on the topic of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), led by Claire Cummins, Health Education Manager at Family Tree Clinic.  Founded in 1971 by MCC member Karla Ekdahl, Family Tree Clinic is a pioneer in comprehensive and affirming sexual and reproductive health care and education.

This session is the product of a MCC tour of Family Tree Clinic in July. Attendees requested a program that would help parents, grandparents and other carers better understand how to be supportive adults for the people in their lives who identify as LGBTQIA+. In this session, Family Tree will cover essential concepts such as gender identity, pronoun use, gender expression, and sexual orientation. Participants will explore these key ideas, helping to build a foundation of understanding. In the second half, we'll debunk common gender stereotypes through thoughtful discussion and real-world examples.

This is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your knowledge of these important topics in a fun and supportive learning environment. You will gain practical insights for fostering inclusivity in any setting. There will be plenty of time for questions - and there are no wrong questions!

Additionally, you'll have the chance to learn more about Family Tree Clinic, their mission, and their truly one-of-a-kind approach to joyful sexual health care and education. Family Tree’s new clinic at 1919 Nicollet Avenue has been designated The Most Healing Space in America by the American Institute of Architects.

Don't miss this chance to learn, connect, and engage with us!

Family Tree Clinic featured on NPR’s All Things Considered on Thursday, October 24. See below:

Minnesota is a refuge for trans health care. This is how doctors are meeting the need.
As more states ban gender care for youth, doctors and clinics in Minnesota are building up capacity to help the influx of trans patients who are traveling or moving to the state for care.
