About this event

The Center for the Victims of Torture (CVT) was founded on the University of Minnesota campus in 1985 and since then has extended rehabilitative care to tens of thousands of torture survivors from around the world, nearly all of whom were refugees or asylum seekers.

Today, CVT is a humanitarian and human rights organization with offices in Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Uganda, the United States and additional project sites around the world.

CVT continues to provide direct care to survivors of torture and conflict-related trauma. CVT also develops the resilience and capacity of professionals, civil society partners and human rights defenders. CVT publicly advocates for international justice and an end to torture; and conducts research to advance the torture treatment field.

We will hear from Dr. Simon Adams, the president & CEO of the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT) as he discusses the amazing work that CVT has done over its 40 year history. Simon will be joined by Emily Hutchinson, CVT’s Vice President of Global Programs and former Mill City Commons Executive Director.
