About this event

When getting to know someone, Native Americans often ask one another: "Who are you?" To them, understanding another person means learning which tribe they are from, their heritage and culture. As non-Natives, we might not begin our conversations with our heritage even if it is of paramount importance in what we eat and how we talk, raise our children, celebrate holidays and see the world.

Maryam Marne Zafar is Native American with a rich, mixed background.  She will speak from her Native perspective about the beauty and the challenges of being a “multi-culti” and will then generalize her experience to a broader population. She believes that “Yes, we all should and must acknowledge all that makes us who we are.”

Ms. Zafar has 40 years of experience working as a “visual strategist” developing identities and communication approaches for businesses and non-profit organizations. She is also a writer, photographer and fine artist.

An optional 30 minute discussion will follow the program to provide MCC members an opportunity to share the impact on their own lives of their own multi-heritages.

Interested in carpooling? Click on the registrant list and find a member in your building or near you that you can connect with and ask to share a ride. Or, feel free to contact the MCC office for a suggestion.
