About this event
Join us for a powerful evening of film and conversation as the MCC Native American Programming Workgroup and Abiitan co-host a screening of War Pony.
This film is a coming-of-age drama following the parallel lives of two Oglala Lakota young men, Bill and Matho, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, exploring their struggles with poverty, identity, and the search for belonging. The film, co-directed by Riley Keough and Gina Gammell, uses authentic experiences from Lakota co-writers to portray harsh realities, contrasting their struggles with systemic neglect, and features non-professional actors from the community for realism. The film will include closed-captioning to ensure accessibility for all participants.
Following the screening, we will gather for a 30-minute discussion to reflect on the film’s themes and explore its relevance today. We hope you’ll join us for this opportunity to learn, connect, and deepen our understanding of Native American history and ongoing efforts for justice.
There is on-street metered parking available. All registrants must check in and out at the concierge desk. Abiitan recommends arriving 15 minutes early.
Interested in carpooling? Click on the registrant list and find a member in your building or near you that you can connect with and ask to share a ride. Or, feel free to contact the MCC office for a suggestion.
